Explosion at Derince Port in Kocaeli
Our team has been formed regarding the incident, and our initial examinations have been conducted. Evaluations are ongoing related to the root cause and loss characteristics.
The incident displayed characteristics perfectly aligned with a typical and well-known risk factor for grain storage facilities, namely a dust explosion. Therefore, the root cause of the incident has been unequivocally identified as a dust explosion, leaving no room for doubt.
Forensic studies are also currently ongoing to examine the factors triggering the root cause.
The extraordinary heat and humidity conditions experienced nationwide over the past 15 days have increased the risk of dust explosions, as in different risk categories.
The Risk Assessment Bulletin we published in 2016 regarding Dust Explosion Risk and Grain/ Cereal Processing and Storage Facilities contains important and up-to-date information for this risk group.
